Old Belvedere Mini Rugby 2013/14 Season
Another successful Belvo Minis season closed with more than 500 children enjoying their rugby at Angelsea Road. Once again we catered for age groups ranging from under 6’s to under 13’s with over 50 children joining at the under sixes age group. We played 56 home matches and 60 away matches which highlights the scale of the Belvo Minis. Our strong numbers are a testament to our structures and of course the 120 coaches who volunteer their time on a Sunday morning (thank you) – the coaches ran over 138 coaching session throughout the season.
We have always been known for our magnificent organisational skills and professional approach to all matters involving the Minis and of course this has become more important as we grow and move the minis forward. There has been one constant throughout all the years of our growth and success – Jacqui Holmes. Jacqui’s commitment to the Belvo Minis is invaluable and without it the “organised chaos” of a Sunday morning would sink in to complete mayhem.
We measure our success on the enjoyment levels of the children but we do compete for silverware at the under 13s level and we had an exceptional year with Maurice Hickeys group winning all around them (Leinster league and cup double). Our under 12’s toured Biarritz with a massive effort from coaches and parents ensuring another hugely successful tour. Bobby O Brien’s group could have over 85 children touring next year which will present new challenges for the organisers.
Our Lunch continues to go from strength to strength with over 40 corporate sponsors with Hunters Estates as the headline sponsor. The ballroom was packed to the rafters with John Mahony entertaining the guests with his views on life. Our Blitz continues to attract the crowds with 1800 children enjoying the event which continues to get better every year.
Our success has always been based on massive commitment, enjoyment of rugby and constant improvement and next year is no exception. Paul Cunningham, Kevin O Brien and Willie McDonald have designed a “Coach the Coaches” training programme which helps all the coaches with their sessions and brings consistency to the coaching across all levels. Spirit Motor Group continue their jersey sponsorship (many thanks to Alan) and The Order of Malta will attend all of our training sessions on Sunday mornings throughout the season ensuring our players have the correct medical support. On behalf of everyone involved with the minis I would like to thank everyone in the senior club for their support. Finally, a big thank you to the parents for their continued support - without it there would be no Belvo Minis!!!
Looking forward to another great Season
