Old Belvedere 100 Years celebration   31/07/2018

Dear Members, As some of you may already be aware, the coming season will see our Club commemorate 100 years since its foundation.

Old Belvedere R.F.C. was  established initially as a Junior Club in the 1918-1919 season at a General Meeting held in Belvedere College.

At the final meeting of the season, it was decided to enter Senior rugby and open the Club to sister Jesuit colleges and others who wished to join.

The arrest and subsequent execution of Kevin Barry, the internment of other players, including the Club Captain, and the continuing volatile political situation,

all contributed to the demise of the original Club which folded before the commencement of the 1922-23 season.

The Club was reformed as a Junior club in 1930 and was granted Senior status in 1937-38. The next decade was a remarkable one for the Club,

winning seven successive Leinster Senior Cups between 1940 and 1947.

Our Club has a proud history over the years of participation in Leinster and Irish rugby and of nurturing players who went on to gain honours at Representative

level as well as representing Ireland and the British and Irish Lions. Our Club also  provided distinguished, Managers, Administrators and Referees at all levels

of the game.

In order to mark the achievements of our Club over the last one hundred years and in recognition of the foresight and vision shown by our Club founders,

it is intended to mark this in the coming season under the symbol "Belvo 100"( See below )The highlight of the year will be a Gala Dinner,

the arrangements for which are as follows:

Date: Saturday, May 18th, 2019.Venue: Royal Dublin Society (RDS)Time: Pre-Dinner reception -7.00pmCost : €120 per person ( €75 for Student Players)Dress Code: Black Tie

We would encourage you to save this date in your diary. We look forward to welcoming to the dinner current members, including players, and their spouses or

partners, as well as those past members who, for one reason or another, have not   visited or been in contact with our Club. It is an ideal and appropriate opportunity

to renew contact with former teammates and friends. We will forward details of the programme for the evening, as well as the payment options, in due course.

We would ask you to network with your friends and other members of the extended Belvedere family to help to make this a night to remember in the proud history of

our Club.In response to this initial notification, you are invited to register your interest in supporting this function and also to circulate this e-mail to former players and

members with whom you are in contact but who may have slipped off our Club's current database. Perhaps you may be in a position to organise a table of ten.

Bookings may be made by e-mail to : Ian or at 01-6603378.

There are great plans to make this season a real success both on and off the pitch. With your support we will make "Belvo 100" a year to remember.
