Old Belvedere How we can help and how can we help   20/03/2020

Dear Members,

The corona virus crisis is an unimagined challenge to the welfare of our community. As rugby players and ex rugby players many of us are fit and healthy and well capable of dealing with the physical challenge of the coronavirus.  However, there are many club members, friends and neighbours who are not so fortunate and are facing into a very difficult time. Our responsibility is to help those most seriously impacted by this crisis.

Rugby promotes the values of selflessness, teamwork and discipline. These are the values that we now need to take from the rugby pitch and bring into the wider community as we look to give support to those who need it.

To those in a position to do so please try to help the many older members of our community who will now rely on others to deal with things that we all took for granted just last week.  Please look out for teammates, members or friends who are isolated or isolating and need help with the practical day to day matters such as shopping or pharmacy visits.  Just letting your older neighbours know that you are available to support will bring a lot of relief and comfort to people. Make a point of getting in touch by phone with people who are housebound and letting them know that you are there to help.

Already, many of our playing members have asked us to let it be known that they are ready, willing and able to provide support wherever they can.

If any members need help, please contact the club and we will support you. Older members (70 plus) are advised to self-isolate which means staying indoors. If that means you need some help please just contact the club and we will find some way of helping.

Please look out for teammates and other club members who might be struggling financially or just feeling worried. Now is the time to demonstrate the true meaning of what it is to be a teammate. If you are worried or struggling please make sure you contact and speak to a fellow member or friend - we are all in this together.

We are looking at practical ways of helping our community and we are open to all ideas.

We are a club and we are teammates and no lockdown changes that. Lets rise to the challenge.

C'mon Belvo.
