RIP Brian "Chico" Whelan   09/06/2020

It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of Brian "Chico" Whelan, one of Old  Belvedere's outstanding members, after a heroic battle with illness. Chico joined Old Belvedere out of school in 1962 and made an immeasurable contribution to the club throughout his almost 60 years of membership. He played at every level, reffed, was President in 1991/92, ran the club dinner for 40 years with his cousin AJ Whelan, oversaw the maintenance of the grounds as well as countless other contributions. He was the epitome of a clubman and a true Belvederian. Brian's father, T.C. Whelan was a founder of the Club.

We send our deepest sympathies to Olivia, Jenny, Hugo, Tom and Brian's extended family and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all members of Old Belvedere and very fondly remembered.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday. Directly after the funeral, the cortege will travel down Ailesbury Road and turn into Old Belvedere grounds for a final goodbye to the club Brian loved so much. The officers of the club will form a guard of honour and walk behind the hearse for the drive through to the Anglesea Road gate.

We will all miss you so much!
