Live Webinar re Kevin Barry

Live webinar with Michael Moriarty author of “What it Said in the Papers – The Execution of Kevin Barry”

Sunday 1st November marks the centenary of the execution of Kevin Barry, an event that was pivotal in Ireland’s battle for independence.

It is a matter of great pride that Kevin Barry played for Old Belvedere in the 1919-20 season and as long as the club has been in existence his photograph has adorned the walls of the clubhouse. He is also memorialised by the annual match between Belvedere College and Old Belvedere U20s which is played for the Kevin Barry Trophy.

To mark the centenary the club has arranged for Michael Moriarty, a relative of Kevin Barry and author of the book “What it Said in the Papers – The Execution of Kevin Barry” to give a talk (via Zoom) on the life and times of Kevin Barry. Michael will also do a short Q&A after his talk.

Michael’s talk will commence at 7.30pm on Wednesday 28th October and you may participate by logging onto the following link:

Meeting ID: 817 5396 3060       Passcode: 114477

Anyone who is interested is welcome to log in to the talk whether a club member or not.

We were hoping to play the annual match on the 1st of November but current circumstances demand a deferral. So unfortunately while it's not possible to enjoy rugby at the moment there is an opportunity to enjoy history and learn about a unique part of the history of our club.

You can buy Michael’s book for €10 incl post and packaging via the following link:

Also the following poignant extract is from the club report at the end of the 2020/21 season.
