Update on Rugby - Training and Matches

With the move to level 3 last week, training was allowed to resume in non contact pods of 15 only. At least it is some activity for our adult players. Under 18 yrs and minis were allowed train during level 5. Minis training has been very active with over 400 children, girls and boys down every Sunday morning. It starts at 9am and is staggered with different age groups through the morning. A really well organised operation and thanks to all the many coaches and managers who make it possible, as well as the Minis committee.

We all hope Covid case numbers continue to go down, so society moves to level 2 in January, and we can move to contact training and then matches later in January/early February, for all our adult teams.

Within senior womens & mens rugby and this uncertainty, the IRFU Rugby Committee have agreed that the focus and emphasis should be on continuing the Energia Community Series when rugby matches are permitted to safely return. We hope that this competition including the semi-finals and finals will still be able to be completed and rather than try to start the AIL in very uncertain times, focusing on completing the ECS makes more sense. The AIL will now not go ahead starting 9th January 2021 as planned, but will be removed for the time being until clarity and more information post 6th January becomes available and it can be reviewed.

I just wanted to bring you all up to date on activity on the pitch. And here's hoping we get back to matches early in 2021.
