Hannah Tyrrell Tribute

The club wishes to extend its congratulations to Hannah Tyrrell on her great international career, post her recent retirement from international rugby.

Hannah joined Old Belvedere in the 2013/14 season and made an instant impact, helping the J1 team to win the Leinster Division 1 Cup that season. Hannah was awarded the player of the match for her performance and was fast-tracked into the Irish 7s program. Such is Hannah’s pedigree, she represented Ireland before she ever lined out for the Old Belvedere’s 1st XV.

From there, Hannah went on to establish a fine international career, representing Ireland in both 7s and 15s. Hannah played 103 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series games for Ireland, scoring 99 points, while also appearing at the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. In 15s Hannah represented Ireland 20 times, scoring 42 points, winning the 2015 Six Nation’s Championship in her debut season and was also a part of the squad for the 2017 World Cup.

Off the field Hannah is an ambassador for both Tackle Your Feelings and Pieta House. She is a strong advocate for mental health and wellbeing, and she has played an important role in mental health discourse in Ireland.

In recent times Hannah has returned to her Gaelic football roots and was named in the Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football panel. In her last match, Hannah scored 2-7 against Cork and was named player of the match, a mere 7 weeks after her player of the match performance for Ireland versus Wales in the Six Nations match in Donnybrook.

This all of course is balanced with her full-time job as a history teacher in St Patrick’s Cathedral Grammar School in Dublin.

Hannah’s phenomenal career is unmatched in its versatility. She is a wonderful athlete whose on field exploits are matched by her charitable work off field. We look forward to the next chapter of her sporting career in the black and white of Old Belvedere, and also in the blue of Dublin.

Congrats Hannah!
