Match Report: AIL Round 2 Double Header at Ollie Campbell Park

Energia All-Ireland League – Double Header at Ollie Campbell Park

AIL Women: Old Belvedere 7 – 27 Blackrock College
AIL Men: Old Belvedere 32 – 17 Ballynahinch
Saturday, October 4th

It was another action-packed day at Ollie Campbell Park as both our Senior Women and Men took to the field for Round 2 of the Energia All-Ireland League, the first home outing of the season for both sides.

Blackrock struck early with two quick tries inside the opening quarter, before Ireland international Méabh Deely extended their advantage. Belvo hit back in the 23rd minute when prop Katie Layde stepped off her right foot to cross from close range, bringing the home crowd to life.

Although Belvo grew into the game and found their rhythm as the match progressed, Blackrock stretched their lead to finish 27–7 winners. Despite the scoreline, there were encouraging signs across the park, particularly in the set piece and defensive work, as Belvo continue to gel under their new coaching team.

Earlier in the day, our Senior Men continued their impressive return to Division 1A with a 32–17 win over Ballynahinch, a result that sends them top of the table after two rounds.

It was a milestone afternoon for Ryan McMahon, who marked his 50th club appearance with two tries, including a powerful second-half effort that shifted momentum firmly Belvo’s way. Morgan Meredith added another with a brilliant solo dribble and regather, while replacement Joe White sealed the bonus point with a late intercept try. David Wilkinson contributed two penalties to round off a composed, complete team performance.
